Goat Terms

Accelerated Kidding- when a doe kids more than once a year
Anemia- a deficiency of red blood cells
Banding- a form of castrating a male animal
Birth Weight- the weight of a kid taken within 24 hours of birth 
Breeding Season-
Buck- an uncastrated male goat
Buckling- an immature, uncastrated buck. 
Caprine- pertaining to goats
CAE- Caprine arthritis encephalitis
CD/T- vaccine given to goats to protect against enterotoxemia and tetanus
CL- Caseous lymphadentis
Colostrum- the first milk that a doe produces after birth; very high in antibodies, it is extremely important that a kid receives this first milk. Colostrum has more vitamins than milk, especially vitamin A.    
Cull- an animal eliminated from a herd because of faults
Creep Feeding- providing supplement feed for nursing kids
Cud- the undigested food that is  regurgitated to be chewed and reswallowed
Dam- the mother of a kid
Dental Pad- the gums on the upper jaw, it takes the place of the top teeth
De-horning- removing the horns on a goat
De-wormer- a substance (herbal or chemical) to get rid of parasites in a goat
Disbud- to remove the horn buds of a goat, usually done with a hot iron
Doe- a female goat
Doeling- an immature female goat
Drench- any liquid medication given to a goat by mouth
Ennoblement- an award given to Boer goats for
